For many of us, the memory of sitting down in front of the tv and gobbling up a bowl of Kraft Dinner (KD) is one that is ingrained in our memories. Well, it looks like KD it about to get a healthy makeover and the question at everyones lips is "will it still taste the same?
According to the Huffington Post, Kraft says it will remove all artificial preservatives and synthetic colours in its iconic macaroni and cheese meal by the end of next year. The company tells fans that "Kraft Dinner"— as the product is known to many Canadians — will, in fact, taste the same.
"All of the ingredients must work together to deliver the distinctive taste, appearance and texture consumers expect and love from Kraft Dinner," spokeswoman Kathy Murphy said in an email to CBC News. "Our fans have made it clear they won't settle for anything less and neither will we."
So why the change?
According to the National Post, Kraft has been under a great deal of pressure since a change.org petition gathered over 350,000 signatures asking Kraft Foods to do exactly so.
Kraft has said that its other macaroni and cheese varieties sold in the United States, (such as Shapes Cups, Original Cups, Premium Flavours and Easy Mac) will have no artificial flavours, preservatives or synthetic colours later next year and that the Canadian macaroni and cheese version, called Kraft Dinner Original, will also eliminate synthetic colours by 2016's end.
